Germination of
Acca sellowiana
Pineapple Guava (Feijoa): Feijoa, Pineapple guava, Guavasteen
Acca sellowiana: Acca sellowiana, also known as pineapple guava or feijoa, is a small tree or shrub native to South America. To germinate Acca sellowiana seeds, begin by soaking them in water for 24 hours to help soften the hard outer seed coat. After soaking, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix, covering them with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist and warm, ideally between 20-25C (68-77F), and place the pot in a bright location with indirect sunlight. Germination can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks, depending on the conditions.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
