Germination of
Acer palmatum ssp. matsumurae 'Oregon Sunset'
Oregon Sunset Japanese Maple: Oregon Sunset Maple, Japanese Sunset Maple, Oregon Crimson Maple, Sunset Laceleaf Maple, Sunset Japanese Maple
Oregon sunset Japanese maple seeds should be stratified before planting. Start by soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours, then place them in a plastic bag filled with moistened peat moss or vermiculite. Seal the bag and store it in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 months. After stratification, sow the seeds in well-draining soil, covering them lightly. Keep the soil consistently moist and place the container in a warm, shady location. Germination may take several weeks to several months.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
