Germination of

Actinidia deliciosa

Classic Green Kiwi: Chinese gooseberry, kiwi fruit, yangtao, macaque peach, vine pear, wood berry

Actinidia deliciosa

To germinate Actinidia deliciosa, begin by soaking the seeds in warm water for 24 hours. After soaking, prepare a well-draining soil mix of equal parts peat moss and perlite. Sow the seeds 1/4 inch deep and 2 inches apart in rows. Water the soil and keep it moist but not saturated. Keep the soil temperature around 70-75F during the day and 60-65F at night. The germination process usually takes around 20-30 days. Once the seedlings have grown to around 4 inches in height, transplant them to individual pots.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
