Germination of

Arachis hypogaea

Transkutukú peanut, Striped peanut, Striped groundnut, Heirloom striped peanut, Arachis hypogaea striped, Transkutuku peanut

Arachis hypogaea

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Direct sow after soil is reliably warm, or start in deep pots if your season is short. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) None required. Use fresh, viable seed. SOWING DEPTH About 3 cm (1–1¼ in.) in many garden soils; slightly deeper in very sandy beds. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) Not applicable (buried seed). TEMP RANGE Soil at ~18–20°C or warmer improves uniform emergence. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Even moisture during emergence; thereafter, consistent watering without waterlogging. Loose soil helps pegs and pods develop. DAYS TO GERMINATE Roughly 1–2 weeks. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) If starting in containers, transplant carefully before roots become crowded. Keep weeds down early so young plants aren’t shaded.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
