Germination of
Arisaema tortuosum
Whipcord Lily: Queen's Tears, Angel's Tears, Flaming Sword
Arisaema propinquum and Arisaema tortuosum are temperate plants that prefer cool temperatures. They require a cold stratification period to break their dormancy and stimulate germination. To achieve this, sow the seeds in a potting mix that contains peat moss, perlite, and sand, and then place the pot in the refrigerator for 4-6 weeks. After the cold period, remove the pot from the refrigerator and place it in a warm, bright location with indirect sunlight. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and wait for the seeds to germinate.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
