Germination of

Aurinia saxatilis compactum

Aurinia saxatilis compactum

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start indoors 8–10 weeks before planting out, or surface sow outdoors in early spring/early autumn. Use a gritty, free‑draining seed-start mix and firm the surface. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) None usually required. If germination is sluggish, a short cool, moist pre‑chill can help some seed lots. SOWING DEPTH Surface sow; press into the medium. Cover only with a dusting of fine grit if needed. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) Light aids germination—do not bury. TEMP RANGE Cool germination is preferred; aim about 10–12°C (50–55°F) for sprouting, then grow on cooler. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Keep evenly moist but never soggy; excellent drainage is key. Bottom water or mist lightly. DAYS TO GERMINATE Roughly 5–14 days in cool conditions. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Harden off gradually before planting out. Avoid rich, wet media—seedlings prefer airflow, bright light, and a lean mix.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
