Germination of
Cananga odorata
Ylang-ylang, Cananga odorata, Perfume tree, Cananga, Fragrant cananga, Ylang ylang tree

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start in pots/trays with a light, well‑draining mix. Keep warm, bright (indirect light), and humid with airflow. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) Pre-soak 24–48 hours in warm water; some guidance mentions an initial very hot-water soak and optional light scarification. SOWING DEPTH About 0.5–1 cm deep. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) No special requirement. TEMP RANGE Warm germination, often ~25–30°C. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Consistently moist but not wet; ventilation helps prevent mold. DAYS TO GERMINATE Often ~3–8 weeks. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Germination can be erratic. Do not allow the medium to dry out during the first month.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
