Germination of
Commiphora myrrha
Common myrrh, Gum myrrh, Somali myrrh, Herabol myrrh, True myrrh, Commiphora myrrha

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start in pots with a very fast‑draining, gritty mix (mineral-heavy). Sow indoors where warmth and moisture can be controlled. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) Soaking is commonly used to soften the hard outer layer. Some guidance discusses hot-water approaches or scarification for hard-coated seed—use care and avoid overheating. SOWING DEPTH Sow shallow—generally about 0.5–1 cm deep, or just covered with gritty mix. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) No special light requirement; keep in bright indirect light for healthy seedlings. TEMP RANGE Warmth is important; target roughly 27–30°C (80–85°F). MOISTURE & MEDIUM Keep barely moist—never wet. Excellent drainage and airflow reduce rot risk. DAYS TO GERMINATE Highly variable; can take several weeks to a few months. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Patience is normal. Fresh seed helps. Once sprouted, increase light gradually and keep the medium on the drier side between waterings.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
