Germination of

Cucumis metuliferus

Kiwano, Horned melon, African horned cucumber, Hedged gourd.

Cucumis metuliferus

Cucumis metuliferus: Cucumis metuliferus, commonly known as horned melon or kiwano, can be propagated through seeds. The seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours prior to planting to help break down the seed coat. Sow the seeds in a well-draining soil mix and keep the soil moist. The seeds need to be kept warm, ideally in a temperature range of 75-85F (24-29C). Germination typically occurs within 7-10 days.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
