Germination of

Drosera gigantea

Drosera gigantea: Giant Sundew, Sundew, Venus Flytrap, Carnivorous Plant, Insectivorous Plant

Drosera gigantea

Drosera gigantea is a carnivorous plant that can be propagated from seeds. To do so, it is recommended to sow the seeds on top of a moist sphagnum moss or peat moss mix in a shallow container. The container should be placed in a bright location with high humidity and kept consistently moist. Germination typically takes around 2-3 weeks, and once the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual containers or directly into a carnivorous plant potting mix.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
