Germination of
Echinocereus Viridiflorus
Nylon Hedgehog Cactus - Rainbow Cactus, Echinocereus viridiflorus
Echinocereus viridiflorus, also known as the Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus, is a small cactus species native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. To germinate Echinocereus viridiflorus seeds, start by soaking them in cool, distilled water for 24 hours to help break the seed dormancy. Then, sow the seeds on top of a moist seed-starting mix and cover them with a layer of fine sand or grit. Keep the soil consistently moist and maintain a temperature of 70-75F (21-24C) with bright, indirect light. Germination should occur within 1-2 weeks.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
