Germination of

Erigeron caespitosus

Fleabane daisy, Daisy fleabane, Erigeron, Horseweed, Annual fleabane, Seaside fleabane

Erigeron caespitosus

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start in pots/flats so tiny seedlings can be managed, then transplant once established. You can also surface sow outdoors on a prepared bed. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) Usually none. Fall sowing outdoors can provide natural chilling if your seed source responds to it. SOWING DEPTH Surface sow and press seeds into the surface; do not cover. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) Requires light—keep seeds exposed. TEMP RANGE Moderate warmth; low‑20s°C daytime can improve speed, with cooler nights acceptable. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Use a fine, well‑drained medium and keep consistently moist (mist or bottom-water). A thin layer of fine vermiculite can help retain moisture without blocking light. DAYS TO GERMINATE Often 2–4 weeks; sometimes longer depending on seed age and conditions. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Once seedlings show true leaves, reduce watering slightly between irrigations to prevent damping off. Transplant after several true leaf pairs.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
