Germination of
Etlingera Elatior "Mix"
Torch Ginger 'Mixed': Bunga Kantan, wild ginger, Philippine wax flower
Etlingera Elatior, also known as the Torch Ginger, is a tropical plant that is native to Southeast Asia. To germinate the seeds, first soak them in water for 24 hours to soften the hard seed coat. Then, prepare a well-draining seedling mix of equal parts of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. Sow the seeds on the surface of the mix and cover them lightly with a thin layer of the mix. Water the soil gently and cover the pot with plastic wrap or a clear lid to create a humid environment. Place the pot in a warm spot with indirect sunlight, and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. The seeds should germinate within a few weeks.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
