Germination of

Ficus racemosa

Cluster fig, Gular fig, Ficus racemosa, Country fig, Indian fig tree, Umbar fig

Ficus racemosa

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start in trays/pots with a fine, moisture‑retentive but well‑drained medium. Sow on a firmed surface. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) Optional: brief warm-water soak. Cleanliness and constant moisture are more important than treatment. SOWING DEPTH Surface sow; do not cover or cover only with the thinnest dusting. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) Light is helpful—keep seeds exposed in bright conditions. TEMP RANGE Warm, stable temperatures support germination. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Keep the surface consistently damp (mist or cover). Do not allow drying. DAYS TO GERMINATE Variable; reports range from ~10–15 days to many weeks. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Transplant only once seedlings have several true leaves. Gradually acclimate from high humidity to normal conditions.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
