Germination of

Fragaria x ananassa

Fragaria x ananassa: Giant Russian Strawberry - Extremely Large Fruit, Strawberry, Giant Russian Strawberry, Giant Strawberry, Pineberry, White Strawberry

Fragaria x ananassa

Fragaria x ananassa, also known as the strawberry, can be propagated from seeds by sowing them in a well-draining potting mix in early spring. The seeds should be sown about 1/4 inch deep and kept at a consistent temperature of around 60-75F (15-24C). Germination typically takes between 2-3 weeks, and once the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves, they can be transplanted into larger containers or directly into the ground in a sunny location with well-draining soil.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
