Germination of

Gentiana septemfida

Crested Summer Gentian, Crested Gentian, Star Gentian

Gentiana septemfida

Gentiana septemfida: Gentiana septemfida, or Crested Gentian, seeds require a period of cold stratification for germination. Mix the seeds with moistened vermiculite or peat moss, and place the mixture in a sealed plastic bag. Refrigerate the bag for 4 to 6 weeks. After cold stratification, sow the seeds on the soil surface and lightly press them into the soil. Maintain a temperature of around 55-65°F (13-18°C) and keep the soil consistently moist. Germination can take several weeks to several months.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
