Germination of
Hylocereus udatus
Dragon Fruit Cactus: Pitahaya, Strawberry Pear, Night Blooming Cactus
Hylocereus udatus, also known as dragon fruit, can be started by planting the seeds directly in well-draining soil. The seeds should be planted about 1/4 inch deep and kept moist until they germinate. Dragon fruit seeds require warm temperatures of around 80F to germinate, so it is best to keep them in a warm location with plenty of sunlight. Once the seedlings emerge, you can transplant them to a larger container or directly into the ground, being careful not to disturb the roots.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
