Sausage tree, Kigelia africana, Kigelia, Worsboom, Cucumber tree, African sausage tree

Kigelia pinnata / Kigelia africana

GERMINATION METHOD (direct sow vs start indoors, etc.) Start in deep pots with a coarse, well‑draining mix. Maintain warmth and consistent moisture. PRE-TREATMENT (scarification / stratification / soaking, only if required) Hard-coated seed often benefits from scarification and a ~24-hour soak. SOWING DEPTH About 1–2 cm deep. LIGHT REQUIREMENT (light/dark to germinate) No special requirement. TEMP RANGE Warm conditions help. MOISTURE & MEDIUM Keep lightly moist—not wet. Excellent drainage prevents rot. DAYS TO GERMINATE Often 4–6+ weeks. NOTES (dormancy quirks, transplant tips, etc.) Do not overwater while waiting. Increase light gradually after emergence.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
