Germination of
Musa velutina
Pink Banana: Pink velvet banana, Pink banana plant, Musa velutina
Musa velutina: Musa velutina, also known as hairy banana or pink banana, is a small, ornamental banana plant native to Southeast Asia. To germinate Musa velutina seeds, begin by soaking them in water for 24 hours to help soften the hard outer seed coat. After soaking, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix, covering them with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist and warm, ideally between 25-30C (77-86F), and place the pot in a bright, sunny location. Germination can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks, depending on the conditions.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
