Germination of

Pinus thunbergii

Black Pine Bonsai Tree, Japanese Black Pine, Pinus Thunbergii.

Pinus thunbergii

Pinus thunbergii is a species of pine tree that is native to Japan. The seeds can be germinated by stratification, which involves placing them in a moist, cool environment for a period of time before planting. To stratify the seeds, they should be placed in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel and stored in the refrigerator for 30-60 days. After stratification, the seeds can be sown in well-draining soil and kept moist until germination, which typically takes 2-3 weeks.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
