Germination of
Prunus mahaleb
St. Lucie Cherry Bonsai Tree: Acerola Cherry, Barbados Cherry, West Indian Cherry, Antilles Cherry

Prunus mahaleb seeds should be stratified to encourage germination. This can be done by soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours, and then placing them in a plastic bag with moist sand or vermiculite. The bag should be kept in a cool place, such as a refrigerator, for 60-90 days. After stratification, the seeds can be sown in a well-draining soil mix at a depth of about twice their diameter. Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and provide plenty of light. Germination should occur within 4-6 weeks.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
