Germination of

Solanum mammosum

Nipple Fruit / Cows Udder - Solanum mammosum

Solanum mammosum

Solanum mammosum, also known as Nipple Fruit or Apple of Sodom, is a tropical shrub that produces small, yellow fruit with a nipple-like protrusion. To germinate Solanum mammosum seeds, start by soaking them in warm water for 24 hours to help soften the seed coat. Then, sow the seeds in a well-draining seed-starting mix and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of 70-80F (21-27C). Germination should occur within 1-2 weeks, at which point you can begin to gradually acclimate the seedlings to lower humidity and cooler temperatures.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
