Germination of

Stapelia Gigantea

South African Starfish Flower: Starfish Succulent, Carrion Flower, Starfish Cactus, Starfish Plant, Mock Aztec Truffles

Stapelia Gigantea

Stapelia Gigantea, also known as Carrion Flower, requires a well-draining soil mix with some sand or perlite added. The seeds should be sown just below the soil surface and watered lightly to keep the soil moist. Germination can take several weeks to a few months and may benefit from bottom heat around 25C (77F). The seeds need a bright, warm and humid environment to germinate, so it is recommended to cover the container with a plastic wrap or dome until the seedlings emerge. Once the seedlings have emerged, gradually acclimate them to lower humidity levels and reduce watering to prevent fungal diseases.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
