Germination of
Tillandsia ionantha
Vibrant Air Plant: Tillandsia, Spanish Moss, Old Man's Beard
For Tillandsia ionantha, you will need to soak the seeds in water for 24 hours before sowing them. Use a well-draining soilless mixture with good aeration and moisture retention capacity, such as a mixture of sphagnum moss and perlite in a 1:1 ratio. Sow the seeds on the surface of the medium and press them lightly to ensure good contact with the substrate. Cover the container with clear plastic or a glass lid to maintain high humidity levels and place it under bright, indirect light. The temperature should be around 70-85F (21-29C) during the day and 60-70F (15-21C) at night. The seeds should germinate in about 2-4 weeks.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
