Germination of

Tillandsia secunda

Secunda Airplant: Red air plant, Tillandsia secunda

Tillandsia secunda

Tillandsia secunda: Tillandsia secunda seeds can be germinated in a few simple steps. Firstly, soak the seeds in water for 24-48 hours to soften the seed coat. After soaking, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix or orchid bark, misting the mix regularly to keep it damp. It is important to keep the seeds warm, with temperatures between 70-85F being optimal. Seedlings should emerge within a few weeks and can be misted until they are large enough to be transplanted into their own containers.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
