Germination of
Tillandsia utriculata
Tillandsia utriculata: Giant Spreading Airplant, Spreading Airplant, Giant Spreading Airplant, Ball Moss, Spanish Moss, Old Man's Whiskers, Resurrection Plant
Tillandsia utriculata is an air plant that can be propagated from seeds. To do so, it is recommended to sow the seeds on top of a moist sphagnum moss or peat moss mix in a shallow container. The container should be placed in a bright location with high humidity and kept consistently moist. Germination typically takes around 2-3 weeks, and once the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves, they can be mounted onto a piece of wood or placed in a decorative container with a well-draining substrate.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
