Germination of

Viola x wittrockiana

Black Devil Pansy Viola, Black Devil Pansy, Horned Violet.

Viola x wittrockiana

Viola x wittrockiana, commonly known as Pansy, can be germinated indoors 8-12 weeks prior to the last frost. Start by sowing the seeds in a well-draining soil mix and press them gently into the soil surface. Keep the soil moist and the temperature between 65-70F. Once the seedlings have developed their second set of true leaves, transplant them into individual containers. Continue to keep the soil moist and the temperature between 60-65F. After the last frost, transplant the seedlings outdoors into a sunny or partially shaded location.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
