Echeveria longissima is a beautiful succulent that forms rosettes of green leaves with red margins. It has a high level of red color to its leaves in a good light. The leaves are up to 1.8 inches (4.5 cm) long and 0.8 inches (2 cm) wide. Flowers are bell-shaped, up to 1.2 inches (3 cm) long, light coral-red at the base, pale greenish-yellow in the middle, and green at the apex. Most common Echeveria species are not complicated succulents to grow, provided you follow a few basic rules. First, be careful never to let water sit in the rosette as it can cause rot or fungal diseases that will kill the plant. Additionally, remove dead leaves from the bottom of the plant as it grows. These dead leaves provide a haven for pests, and Echeverias are susceptible to mealy bugs. Finally, as with all succulents, careful watering habits and plenty of light will help ensure success.
Repot as needed, preferably during the warm season. To repot a succulent, make sure the soil is dry before repotting, then gently remove the pot. Knock away the old soil from the roots, making sure to remove any rotted or dead roots in the process. Treat any cuts with a fungicide. This beautiful and very sought after Echeveria longissima rarely offsets and grows very slowly. This plant has a high level of red colour to its leaves in good light, the blotchy red spots are normal and occur under strong light. The flower is large and bell-shaped of pale and green colouring.
A rare variety that offers many distinguishing factors, it would really show if planted with other Echeveria species. Whether that be a bowl indoors or a bed outside (keep protected from frosts).
